Latest developments of exploration activities in Block 4

The Ministry of Energy and Water and the Lebanese Petroleum Administration (LPA) have been publishing accurate information related to the petroleum sector in Lebanon, a measure that also strictly applies to drilling activities in Block 4.

To reiterate what was previously disclosed, drilling operations require a period of no less than two months in order to complete the first exploration well that started on 3 March 2020.

Activities are ongoing according to the previously approved drilling program, as the Right Holder Operator in cooperation with the responsible authorities, is taking the necessary precautions to continue the work despite the general state of mobilization declared in the country due to the new Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Total E&P Liban and service providing companies are executing activities in accordance with the industry’s best international practices with respect to drilling in the deep offshore, while the LPA is following-up the work progress on daily basis.

It is important for the Ministry of Energy and Water to clarify that today it is too early to determine the drilling results before activities are fully completed, and once results - wether positive or negative -  are analysed.

Therefore, the Ministry of Energy and Water stresses that the information being circulated regarding drilling activities and their results are not based on factual nor accurate information, and it is not issued by neither the Ministry of Energy and Water, the LPA nor by the Operator Total E&P Liban.

The Ministry of Energy and Water abides by transparent and accurate measures while disclosing and publishing information related to this sector.
