The LPA Board and the TotalEnergies-led consortium reviewed the Block 8 programme and agreed on ways to speed up the planned 3D seismic survey.
The Block 8 Management Committee (MANCOM), bringing together the Lebanese Petroleum Administration (LPA) and the Block 8 Right Holders—TotalEnergies EP as operator, Eni, and QatarEnergy—met to review progress on the block's exploration programme.
The LPA was represented by its Board, chaired by Mr. Fawzi Khalife (Technical & Engineering), with Board members Mr. Gaby Daaboul (Legal Affairs), Mr. Wissam Zahabi (Economic & Financial), Ms. Grace Rashid (QHSE), Mr. Wissam Chbat (Geology & Geophysics), and Mr. Jean-Paul Sabbagh (Strategic Planning).
The consortium delegation was led by Eng. Layla El Hares, Managing Director of TotalEnergies East Mediterranean, with Mr. Romain de la Martinière, VP North Africa, also attending. Mr. Alessandro Gelmetti represented Eni, and Mr. Ali Al-Mana represented QatarEnergy. The session was an opportunity to welcome Eng. El Hares in her new role as the operator's representative.
Block 8 lies in the deep waters of Lebanon's southern offshore, within the Levant Basin, and covers about 1,400 square kilometres. It is one of the few areas of Lebanese waters not yet covered by 3D seismic data. The planned survey is therefore a key step in assessing the block's hydrocarbon potential.
The MANCOM went through the block's exploration programme in detail. It reviewed the steps completed so far and the environmental permitting under way for the planned 3D seismic survey. It also discussed the activities ahead, from survey planning to operational and safety readiness.
The parties agreed on practical ways to speed up delivery through closer coordination with the authorities. Throughout, they will keep the highest standards of safety, environmental protection, and compliance.
Mr. Khalife praised TotalEnergies' continued commitment to Lebanon and the consortium's flexibility in finding ways to speed up progress for the benefit of the country. He stressed the LPA's support for the consortium and its commitment to keeping the public informed as exploration progresses.
