Republic of Lebanon
Lebanon, represented by the LPA, participated in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Global Conference which was hosted by the Government of France from the 18th until the 19th of June 2019 in Paris.
During the Global Conference, Mr. Nasr – Acting Chairman of the LPA and Head of the Strategic Planning Unit – delivered a national key note speech in which he reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to join the EITI while collaboratively working with stakeholders.
Nasr highlighted that the EITI standard and it’s requirements are already mainstreamed in national laws, application decrees and exploration and production agreements, thus becoming obligations to be respected by governmental institutions as well as oil companies, these include contracts and subcontracts disclosure, and beneficial ownership to name a few.
As a high-level forum on extractives governance, the EITI Global Conference provided an opportunity to reinforce the importance of multi-stakeholder dialogue and openness in addressing EITI implementation related issues. The Global Conference also provided a platform for exchange among different countries.
